Welcome!
Welcome to Belly Jewels - this site is not only aimed at those who currently attend my classes, but also for those interested in belly dance and want to find out more about local classes in the Redditch area.
This site is updated regularly and I try and provide information I think you may find interesting, such as the history behind the dance, different styles of belly dance, and some recommended CDs if you are keen to buy some music to shimmy to!
Also listed are local belly dance events and also links to other teacher's websites if you live further afield or can't make my classes. Please also check out the photo gallery, where I've posted photos from recent charity hafla's and other dance events.
You will also find information on local classes which I teach in Redditch, so please check regularly for any changes or updates.
About me...
I have been belly dancing for about five years and started teaching beginners belly dance classes 3 years ago. I love all things to do with belly dancing- the music, costumes, fusion of styles... I could go on and on! I love the fact that it brings together women (and occasionally men!) of all ages, sizes, abilities, who enjoy dancing together for fun and exercise.
The first time I really knew I wanted to immerse myself in the world of belly dance was after watching a live Bellydance Superstars show where I was transfixed by the variation of styles, from cabaret to tribal, and the mesmerising moves of the excellent dancers, who made it look effortless. It was from then that I started studying DVDs, reading books/articles and researching websites as well as attending a regular weekly class. I began learning belly dance with Georgia, who still teaches in Redditch, but also took classes with Dawn O'Brien, and Tracy Griffiths to learn a variety of styles and technique.
I now dance 4 times a week, predominently modern egyptian/turkish cabaret, although I enjoy experimenting with tribal fusion and other dance styles such as bhangra/bollywood. I am constantly progressing and adapting my personal dance style as I attend regular work shops and study moves and techniques to bring to my classes. I have enjoyed attending workshops with some excellent teachers, including Maria D'Silva, Ozgen (male belly dancer), Jillina, Moria and Kami of the BDSS & Tara Ibrahim to name a few.
